As with the E6K, one main advantage of the Haltech E6X over other stand alone engine management systems is the ability to use many of the existing components already on the stock engine.
In regards to trigger pickups, the Haltech E6X accepts almost all existing magnetic, hall-effect, and optical triggers without the need for special hardware. This means on most modern engines with existing EFI components, there is no need to mount specialized trigger wheels and sensors. With the new E6X, the Motronic pickup is available via menu selection. There is no need to special order PIC's chip from the factory.
In regards to ignitors, the Haltech E6X accepts most existing OEM and aftermarket igniters without special setup, as the igniter options are menu selectable. This includes most smart (dwell-controlled), dumb (no-dwell), and aftermarket (MSD, Jacobs, Accel, etc.) igniters. In most cases, there is no need to purchase and setup specialized Bosch igniters if there are already OEM igniters on the particular engine. In addition, the E6X can control different ignition strategy including distributor, waste-spark, or direct-fire, all without the need for special setup, provided there are enough drive channels for the particular engine.
In regards to intake air temp sensors and coolant temp sensors, the Haltech E6X is characterized for the GM-type sensors. However, we have found that on many application, such as some Honda's and Mazda's, the existing temp sensors are characterized very similarly to the GM-type sensors. In these cases, the OEM sensors are only slightly different (+/- 3deg) from the GM-type sensors at the same temperature, so we use the OEM temp sensors. Although the OEM sensors may not display the actual readings, the temperature compensation maps are tuned by bar ranges and the actual readings are not very important.
The Haltech E6X accepts almost all existing OEM 0-5v throttle position sensors.
